It’s great to hear the return of public support for President Obama.
But this quick rebound? Just a few weeks ago, didn’t all news media reported how gloomy his political future is etc.? How come media and public change their minds every moment? Like a hysterical women during their periods. Have some trust, faith, patience?
“Thank G- for this fast turnaround. We believe he is “Your Servant” no matter what. So, still his mission is on the way!”

Jason Linkins at Huffpost criticize President Obama for betraying his supporters such as professional or ameture liberal lefts and so on. To tell the truth, his view seems to be too much “blowing off the steam of youthful passion/energy for idealism or so, but not really productive for anything. (“Obama Demeans His Own Supporters“, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/18/obama-professional-left_n_722064.html)
Who else is out there for liberal voters to stick with? Isn’t President the only option, hope?
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s plan to march to Washington “to restore sanity” is so time appropriate and “cute” ! I wish it becomes a big success (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/17/stewart-colbert-rally-to-restore-sanity_n_720588.html).
When I was a college student in Asia, many times I witnessed extreme student demonstrations to make the government and public hear their political agendas. I heard that they intentionally pushed themselves so extreme, to achieve at least half way of their goals. Overall, what liberal lefts and strong activists of issues here have done similar things. And the administration has achieved half way in between. The achieved bills are far better than nothing, but not perfect. But, at least, something are out there.

I am glad to hear that President is taking recess time of his own, away from the interruptions of usual family affairs and politics. I wish him to recharge himself with passion, vigor and energy during this vacation to emerge with the clear view of priorities of political and 2010/2012 election issues and what is most important for this country and him.
I sincerely wish to see him succeed in his mission. As an extremely meager christian who barely follows the basic christian rules but trust myself as a right-minded human being and my pure intention for him and this country, I sincerely believe that there is a reason why God appointed him as a Head of this country at this point of time. I wish him to achieve, accomplish the purposes of his existence, his mission that God assigned to him.
And I applaud his handling of following: “….but shortly after the president arrived, he announced a series of recess appointments. He filled four diplomatic and agency jobs under a temporary authority he gains while Congress is on recess, and he blamed Republicans for forcing him to bypass the normal confirmation process.”
It’s a shrewd, right strategic approach. Through watching how politics work, though for very short period, and my personal life experience, I learned that high moral standing without specific counteracting strategies to problems can be meaningless, especially when the opponents don’t have any morality, consciousness and reasoning. I wish God to straighten him if he makes mistakes.

He said:
“politically, this health care reform issue could end up as a lose-lose situation for President and administration… If health care reform does not pass it’ll look like the Democratic Party and this administration can’t get their act together. If they pass health care reform, we’re really not going to see any sort of tangible result for years, leaving no quantitative way for the Democrats to measure its potential for success in 2010 or even 2012….this administration has already been saddled with the narrative (fair or unfair) that they want to shove big government programs down the throats of Americans.”
I do not agree to Mr. Brody’s statement.
I believe, President’s biggest problem of not passing health care reform will be gainning public’s perception of his failure of not delivering his reform promise. This will rule over anything else. Passing health care reform will become his historical political achievement, even with weak one, after many ex-presidents failed. Not working economy, failed reforms, and continuously malfunctioning social system will be core issues and bite President/administration most, not the ideological debate of big government. If everything goes fine, people will forget about “What Big Government?.” Public seem to change their mind all the time.

As we are waiting for the final bloody battle of health care reform, the final stage of compromising between the “House” and senate bills, I wish you (if you hadn’t read it yet) to read Professor Dreier’s blog “Waffling Democrats’ Health Care Hypocrisy.” Dr. Dreier educates us on how “Bribed” Senators Joe Lieberman, Max Baucus, Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, Blanche Lincoln and Kent Conrad discriminate the US public against military service men and veterans. These senators supported to provide “Public Plan” to military service men and veterans in the name of Veterans Administration (VA), but fight hard against providing the same “Public Plan” to us “the Public”? Why, on earth, do they have this right of discriminating the US population based on whether they are in military uniform or not?
Apparently, the existing “Public Plan”, the VA, has proved to become the most efficient, best functioning “Public Plan” over any other options in US history. If this had been the case, why these Senators keep denying, attacking the “Public Plan”? Taking “Ethics/Moral” Classes and Tests should be the prerequisites to become US senator. I wish, President Obama recovers well from his extreme tiredness of first year of presidency in Hawaii and gets into his best shape to get ready for the final battle ground of health care reform. He has listened to and respected everybody else’s opinions well up to now. This is the best and last chance for him to push himself, his own determination onto everybody else on the health care reform.

I read repeatedly strong interference of special interest politics in shaping the recent Senate health care reform bill as well as financial sector reform. Ms. Arianna Huffington at Huffinton Post reported that 13 former congressmen and 166 congressional staffers were actively engaged in lobbying their former colleagues on the health care reform bill.
To prevent corruption and the manipulation of industrial special interest politics in shaping US government policies, I wonder whether it is necessary to introduce a law that bans congressmen and congressional staffers from working as lobbiests for industries of special interests or industries that represent “Conflicts of Interests,” after these people finish their congressional terms or quitting their positions in Congress. Also when people are hired for these positions, they should be required to sign a contract that prevents them from working for special interests after they finish their congressional terms or quit their jobs in Capital Hill.
Update: According to a commenter (nickname Bernique) who replied to my comment at the Huffington Post, there was actually a law that, as I proposed above, banned congressmen or congressional staffers from working for special interests after leaving their public posts. According to him, Congress changed this law after the right-wing election of 1996.
Now, what we need is to “REINSTATE” this law again if we want to establish “Sanity” in Capital Hill, chnage the course of this country into self-destruction and bring it back to “One-Headed Nation by the President/Government.

As we have witnessed the endless twists of health care and financial reforms this year, my impression on this country’s politics is, this country is not “One-Headed.”
The United States of America is more like a nation of “Two Heads”: the “Government” and the “Industrial Medusa” that consists of many small heads of powerful industries and their bands of lobbyists, including financial, pharmaceutical, health care, oil industries. The Government has the role of policing the nation; the Industrial Medusa manipulates the Government, media, and the public to set the social structure in their favor, in ways to minimize the nation’s regulations on them and maximize their money earning, profits at any costs, even at the destruction of their country and economy which nurture, feed them with money.
Over the last decades, it has been this “Industrial Medusa” that has won the game with the Government by manipulating, bribing, dominating it to structure this country’s social, economic structure best for their benefits. Taking undeserved money from the public through malicious business practices means that the public is losing money and becoming poorer. Loose or few government regulations on this Industrial Medusa has caused the misallocation of money resources in this society that has been drained from middle and poor classes’ pocket money for living necessities and poured into industrial riches’ pockets to support their unprecedented luxurious lifestyle. The outcomes of Industrial Medusa’s social misconducts have been not only the current short/mid-term recession but also disappearing middle class, deepening poverty of low-income class, and the weakening US industrial structure and competitiveness in world markets. This is exactly what has happened in this country and will continue so if the Obama administration’s reform efforts fail in vain.
Now, there is this fierce battle (and sometimes compromising) game of obtaining the dominance between President Obama/Government (which have been scarred by the endless dissonance and betrayal among their own folks, Democrats) and the Industrial Medusa. It has never been this close for the Government to take this dominance from the Medusa. Despite many current problems and flaws, the nation should remember that it has been only the current President who came this close to the reversal of chronically ill-designed US power game. Productive, healthy criticism will help the Government win the battle. But, just criticizing for the sake of criticizing will unnerve, deprive the energy and passion out of the President /Government and empower, help the Industrial Medusa win the game and maintain their dominance in US politics again. We should understand that the current troubles with financial and health care reforms are rather the indication of how tough, powerful the industries’ influence on US politics than the weakness, flaws of the President’s political skills and unfolding policy agendas. Politics, as usual, is a complicate game.
Below are the blogs of how these industrial interests are twisting the current reforms.

“Tarrifs were not the main cause of the 1930s depression. The cause was the exact same financial casino gambling that brought us down this time. Hence, the Glass-Steagall Act, which was repealed in 1999.
America grew strong in isolation and protectionism. We produced almost everything we needed, except rum, coffee and bananas.
Globalization – “Flat Earth” – has been the theory that has destroyed the economy of this country and several other countries. We are on the losing end of every “Free Trade” agreement. We are trading jobs for foreign workers. The Ex-Im Bank and Overseas Private Investment Corporation (two agencies of the US Treasury) are funding $billions every year for American companies to move overseas. 67% of American corporations have plans to increase offshore operations. Do some research on “protectionism”. “Globalization is a LIE.”
My Response was:
Although I am tired, sleepy now. I am still almost sure that “tariffs, protectionism” were the causes of Great Depression. That’s why, since then, there were international multilateral negotiations to reduce tariffs worldwide and not to repeat the same bad experience of tariff imposition / protection. If you were not sleepy, please check the fact and let me know !
Regarding “America grew strong in isolation and protectionism,” this is the most “RIDICULOUS” statement that I have ever heard! You want to put this country in economic, political exile away from the rest of world and cut off its position of economic and political superpower in the world to degrade into poorer and poorer country? Let me guess. You must have never left your block of town to travel around and see the reality of the world.
What do we trade off by engaging in world trade?
LOSS :
Some labor-intensive manufacturing jobs as imports of those goods gain domestic market sales.
GAIN:
A. Gaining of export-related jobs (this is one reason of why the White House wish China to save US economy and unemployment problem through their purchase of US goods);
B. Cheaper imported goods make us be able to buy more goods, more foods, clothings, electronics, etc with same income. We feel richer when we can consume cheaper import goods; we feel poorer when cheap imports are not available and we have to buy more expensive domestically produced goods (please compare the numbers of grocery items that, with $100, we can buy from Wal-Mart (many of them cheap imports) and from a rather expensive grocery store. You will feel the difference of how much we can consume more or less with same income depending on whether cheaper imports are available to us or not.
Without cheap imports, we may save some jobs of ours or our fellow workers, but we altogether/collectively have to eat less food, wear less clothings and shoes, buy less toy…overall we will feel poorer without trade than when we have imports.
It would be a choice of what we prefer.
